Eastside’s March 2025 Updates

Spoken Word Power Final

On 27th March, Eastside welcomed 14 Primary, Secondary and SEND schools who have taken part in Spoken Word Power this term to the Criterion Theatre in the West End to take part in a celebratory poetry sharing event. As part of this, we were thrilled to invite a number of schools from across England who had taken part in this project remotely via Spoken Word Power LIVE: a series of free livestream workshops, poetry teaching resources and on-demand video resources. A big shout out to Cardinal Wiseman School who joined us all the way from Birmingham!

Renowned poet and educator Jacob Sam-La Rose was our brilliant MC, putting all our poets at ease and entertaining our audiences throughout.

We also enjoyed two spectacular performances from poet, musician, theatre-maker, rapper and beatboxer (what can’t he do?) Conrad Murray, who taught everyone in the audience the first steps on beat boxing, and even invited some willing volunteers up on stage to build a piece of music on the spot using his loop pedal. It really was quite magical!

A huge thank you to all of our talented Eastside poet facilitators who worked with schools this term to help create the inspiring, thought-provoking, hilarious and moving work we saw on stage last week and CONGRATULATIONS to every young person who took to the stage to share their own work.

Working towards a future in which all young people’s creativity is nurtured and celebrated
