Celebrate Diversity in your school with Eastside’s creative workshops, designed for you and your students to celebrate diversity, during Black History Month, as well as the rest of the year.

All workshops are led by our expert facilitators, and build students’ key academic and personal skills, including confidence, vocabulary, and speaking & listening.

EYFS & KS1 – ANANSI ADVENTURES

Join Anansi the Spider and his friends on a traditional West African immersive storytelling adventure, introducing pupils to cultural traditions through exploration and active learning.

Choose from the following adventures:

The Wisdom Pot: Anansi the spider tries to keep all the wisdom of the world to himself. Will he succeed or will he learn a better way?

Anansi and The Turtle: Anansi is not a good host to his friend the Turtle when he visits for dinner, but will it come back to bite him? Learn all about building healthy friendships with Anansi!

KS2 – BLACK HISTORY HEROES

In this unique drama workshop, your class will learn about the life story and achievements of a black hero from history. They will work together to bring parts of their story to life, understand and discuss their contribution to society. Through creative and dynamic drama activities, students will celebrate and gain a deeper understanding of black people who fought oppression and understand the impact of this on their own world.

1 hour per class

  • Literacy (Speaking and Listening)
  • History (Teaching key historical events and teaching about the lives of key Black and minority ethnic historical figures)

KS3 - LYRICAL LEGENDS OR AFRICAN RHYTHMS

LYRICAL LEGENDS

Explore the recent history and development of Black British music, using Spoken Word Poetry to open up a world of lyrical expression to your students.  Celebrate the achievements of Black British artists, and inspire your class to follow in their footsteps as trailblazing poets.

AFRICAN RHYTHMS

Give your students the chance to try African drumming or dance, building an appreciation of African cultural traditions, whilst also developing rhythm and movement skills.

Choose either: Music (Drumming) or Movement (Dance)
