Support from Unesco and other news…

Hello everyone,

I am delighted to announce that UNESCO UK has endorsed I know I wish I will, Eastside’s 25th anniversary national project.

James Bridge, Secretary-General of The UK National Commission for UNESCO writes:

“The UK National Commission for UNESCO is delighted to be partnering with the Eastside Educational Trust’s, I know I wish I will project.  The project embodies many of the values and ideals of UNESCO, providing young people with an opportunity to access a sometimes less well represented aspect of culture.  It encourages them to express themselves when their voices might otherwise not be heard. The I know I wish I will project is a great way for the UK to celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21st.”

We are so proud to receive this message.  Thanks must go to the thousands of young people from across the country who submitted their spoken word poetry.  Please book your tickets now if you want to be part of this amazing poetry marathon OR if you would like to make a donation to ensure young people from across the country can take part, please join our project fundraising campaign.

World book day is on the horizon (5th March), so teachers, don’t forget to book your workshops…we have a whole host of inspirational programmes to offer!

We are also proud to have launched this month, a commissioning fund, available to all theatre makers in partnership with Southwark Council, as part of the Raise the Curtain programme which will deliver a free theatre visit for all Southwark primary aged students over a 2.5 year period.  Please do share this information as our deadline for applications is Tuesday 25th February.

We are so pleased to welcome new faces to the core Eastside team.  Maisie Post joins us as our first ever Communications and Digital Coordinator, welcome Maisie!  And Liana Wyatt moves into a new role as Schools Engagement Coordinator – congratulations Liana.  We also welcome Sam New, as our Facilities and Finance Assistant. Welcome Sam! Finally, we welcome Jemma Robinson as our I know I wish I will event coordinator.

Wishing you all a great month,

Matt
