Summer updates

Dear friends

Congratulations on completing the 2021 summer term!

I hope you will be able to enjoy a relaxing break in the near future.

As we come to another milestone in the Covid 19 pandemic, with restrictions lifting across the UK and the academic year coming to a close, I suspect we will all be reflecting on another challenging and extraordinary period of our lives.

Eastside has been working hard to support thousands of young people across the country to have their voices heard and develop their creativity skills delivering in person and online workshops led by our wonderful artists and practitioners.

Rather than trying to capture the sentiment of these times, instead I prefer to share the voices of our young participants…please take a little time to explore ten remarkable short videos featuring primary students who have recently participated in our Creative Southwark Schools programme – I have been so moved to witness their artistic depictions of life over these difficult times.

As we wind down our schools work and prepare for a new term, our film and digital programme work is in full throttle with our Environmental Filmmakers Programme in which young filmmakers are creating documentaries about climate change featuring international youth activists who have made a real difference.   We hope to launch these at the Conference of Youth in Milan and subsequently at COP26 hosted this year by the UK.

Due to exciting programmes and opportunities on the horizon, we are now looking to grow our core team and have two exciting new roles available – a Marketing and Communications Manager and a new Kickstarter Projects Assistant.  Please help us spread the word by share the details widely and don’t delay as these roles are due to start soon!

Looking ahead to the autumn we have some very exciting announcements –  we will be delivering another Eastside BFI Film Academy as well as launching an Artists in Residence programme for schools across London and beyond.  Working on this programme and many others we welcome our new Schools Engagement Coordinator Maddy Page to the team.

We also have some big news about a national project – but I will save that one for after the holidays.

Thank you for your wonderful support and please do get in touch if you have any questions or want to be part of the Eastside story in any way.
