Eastside’s November 2023 Updates

Eastside’s November Updates

Dear Friends of Eastside,

I hope you’re keeping well.

As November begins, we wanted to give you an update of Eastside’s exciting activities.

Black History Month - the work continues!

In October we celebrated Black History Month in hundreds of schools across the country with our best ever attended Creativity Live livestream show: entitled Celebrating Diversity – thanks to all of you who joined – you smashed it!

We are also running even more in-school workshops right across the term using storytelling, drama, spoken word and music to explore and deepen students’ understanding of Black History and the impact of this on our world.

Eastside's 30th Anniversary

There’s just over a week to go until we launch our amazing 30th Anniversary exhibition in Shoreditch Library.

The interactive and colourful exhibition explores Eastside’s rich 30-year history, taking a deep dive into our impact on children and young people across the UK. The exhibition will be open to the public from 10th November 2023 – 4th March 2024, please come along and leave your thoughts on our interactive wall!

We would love for you to join our 30th Anniversary Creativity Campaign by answering the following question: “Being creative is important to me because…“. Don’t forget to tag us and use the hashtag #Eastside30.

Creative Schools Symposium 8-29 November

We are so excited to be delivering another fantastic annual symposium free to all educators and creative practitioners. Join us to discuss, explore and promote Creativity, Culture and Wellbeing within Education.

Let’s look at wellbeing from the inside out, hear from fellow colleagues, give ourselves permission to unwind, relax and connect and explore together how to bring joy and fulfilment back into education for staff and young people alike. Please don’t miss out!

Future Leaders

We’re currently recruiting for Future Leaders, a national poetry facilitator training programme. We’re recruiting for a London-based cohort as part of our Spoken Word Power programme; bringing spoken word poetry workshops to schools aimed at encouraging students to write and perform their very own poetry, culminating in an exciting performance event in the West End for World Poetry Day.

Whitecross Film

Eastside’s young filmmakers have been hard at work over the last few months, working on a number of exciting commissions including documenting the wonderful Whitecross Street Party, which took place in July.

Watch the film now.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and may the 30th anniversary celebrations begin!
