SUPPORT

Help make our poetry marathon happen

Eastside is celebrating its 25th birthday through delivering I know I wish I will – a national spoken-word poetry programme which is developing the creativity and confidence of thousands of young people from across the country’s most deprived neighbourhoods.**

If you would like to support with a small donation to help make this project happen then please click on the ‘DONATE‘ button at the top of the page.

As well as welcoming smaller donations from individuals we are now recruiting a select number of corporate sponsors to support Eastside to deliver this extraordinary project.

Here’s some encouragement from Stephen Fry.

There are five ways your support can make a difference:

More experienced poets interstitial

MAIN EVENT SPONSOR

WHAT WILL YOU SUPPORT

Your funds will help us create a new world record West End Poetry Marathon, running continuously from 11am on Friday 20th March 2020 until midday Saturday 21st March, in which over 500 young performers will take part.

We will be welcoming young people and their families from all across the country to London’s Criterion Theatre to come and perform their original poems and make their voice heard.

We will be live streaming the event across the country (and the world) and welcoming celebrities, performers and poets to host each of the marathon sections.  We will publish the whole poetry performance in a beautifully designed souvenir book – celebrating the voice of the nation’s young people in 2020.

You could be the Main Event Sponsor supporting all aspects of the event, including travel bursaries for participants, the production and live stream costs and the publication of the book.

PERFORMER CHAMPION

WHAT WILL YOU SUPPORT

500 young people from across the country will be invited to perform on the West End stage.  Many of these may not have the means to travel down to London.  As a Performer Champion we invite you to help us support these young people with travel and accommodation costs plus ticket subsidies for their loved ones to enjoy their performance.

We would like to give our participating young people the warmest reception possible and to provide refreshments for those staying overnight and transport around London – your support will make all the difference.

Your support will enable us to enable to beautifully design and light the event, and ensure multiple camera operation, curated content delivery and a professional and high quality experience for all participants and viewers.  Your support will also enable us to place five of our young film-maker trainees with industry professionals to gain invaluable experience in broadcasting live events.

REGIONAL PARTNER

WHAT WILL YOU SUPPORT

We will have dedicated 90 minute performance slots for each of the 6 participating regions – Merseyside, Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire, South Yorkshire, London and Peterborough.  We invite you to support the costs of your chosen region by becoming a Regional Partner to ensure that local young people take part in an unforgettable experience.

WHAT WILL YOU SUPPORT

Our Event Donors are companies or individuals who want to support the event but may chose not to commit to one of the larger support packages.  All smaller donations are key to making the event professionally produced, smoothly run and accessible to all young people and their families, no matter what their financial circumstances.

WHY IS YOUR SUPPORT NEEDED?

SPOKEN WORD POETRY CAN BE A POWERFUL TOOL TO UNLOCK YOUNG MINDS AND ALLOW THEM TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES…

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s feedback from the school workshops we’ve been running across the country:

“A pupil, who has a history of mutism and a recent family bereavement, used the workshops to express how they felt and make sense of their negative emotion.”

“One pupil performed a piece about her experience of the care system; although teachers were aware of the situation this was the first time the pupil spoke at length about it, and especially to her peer group. She said ‘It just felt like the right way to talk about it.'”

– Merseyside

“We had pupils singing their poems and adding actions without prompting, one teacher passed a poet a note whilst self-nominated performances took place stating ‘this pupil was a self-certified mute until last week!’ “

– Peterborough

Absolutely brilliant couple of mornings at East Dene. The kids were so impressive. Some extremely moving ‘I come from’; poems from a few kids – they really bared their souls. Everyone participated and performed.

– Rotherham
