So much has happened here at Eastside since we returned from the festive break at the start of the year.
On 11th January we launched SPOKEN WORD POWER at the Criterion Theatre in central London. Generously supported by Arts Council England, John Lyon’s Charity and the UK National Commission for UNESCO, this exciting spoken word poetry project provides a platform for the vibrant voices of a new generation of young people across the country.
Now is the time for young people in a school near you to take part!
Our SPOKEN WORD POWER Open Call provides simple resources for teachers to support their students to write their own poetry, perform in a school poetry slam and be included in our published Poetry Anthology. Any educational institution working with students aged up to 18 is eligible to participate in this programme. More information can be found on our website, or you can watch this short video from our talented Lead Ambassador for the project, Poetess Jess. Please do pass this on to those who you think would like to get involved in this incredible opportunity.
I am also pleased to share news of Eastside’s recent BFI Film Academy screening event. Aspiring filmmakers deepened their knowledge of filmmaking through a series of workshops and masterclasses, where they had the chance to learn from, and work with, leading industry professionals through Eastside’s BFI Film Academy programme. We are proud to have screened their films at Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch and you can view the films here.
We are honoured that Stephen Fry has recently shared his support of our star-studded ‘April Foolery’ gala fundraising event. A highly anticipated evening of comedy and music featuring Hugh Dennis, Simon Brodkin and The Showstoppers that will take place at the Lund Theatre, UCS on 12th April 2022. You can view Stephen Fry’s video here.
All proceeds from the event will be reinvested into Eastside activities meaning that we will be able to continue to support young people to access creative opportunities in communities where our support is needed most. Tickets are available now via eventbrite, or you can scan the QR code on the promotional poster below. Act now, let your friends know and book your tickets now to avoid disappointment!
Finally, on March 2nd and 3rd, Eastside will once again be going live to schools across the nation with brand new World Book Day livestream workshops for young people. Let your schools and teacher friends know so that they can sign up and join in with all Eastside Online activities.
Thanks for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events!
