Celebrating 25 Years

Hello everyone!

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer.  Schools are back and so are we with a brand new-look website and a range of excellent workshops and activities for schools and young people to get involved in.

Over the summer, Eastside’s young filmmaker trainees worked on a Documentary and Promo making course – sponsored by the British Board of Film Classification.

Each team partnered with a leading industry partner – Southbank Centre, Graeae Theatre and Clod Ensemble. Students responded to a professional brief, pitched their ideas, then filmed and edited a doc / promo in their groups. We are so proud of the results and are delighted to share the film made for the Southbank centre which has since been released publicly

If you are a young filmmaker, please know that we are recruiting for our 8th annual BFI Film Academy  – you can sign up here

As part of our 25th birthday planning the Eastside team has been working hard to raise additional funds for our essential creative activities with children and  young people across London and the whole country. We held a wonderful birthday party – you can watch the film, created by Gabriel Monk-Lane, one of our talented young filmmakers, here:

This weekend 6th – 8th September I will be taking to the pool to swim 25 kilometres for Eastside.  Please feel free to sponsor me here. To add to this, our wonderful chair of trustees, James Peterson and friends will be undertaking a gruelling try – art – lon:  swimming, cycling and running huge distances for Eastside.  Felix our intrepid general manager will be cycling through every borough in London with James on Saturday.  Best of luck with it!

Finally, we go live with our 25th anniversary national spoken word project I know I wish I will in which we will draw together thousands of young people from across the country to create the world’s longest spoken word poetry performance.  Please spread the word – any young person aged between 5 and 25 years can join in.

Thanks to everyone who is putting so much into Eastside and helping us make the difference we make to thousands of young lives.
