A New DirectionA New Direction commissioned Eastside Educational Trust to be part of 'The Biggest Learning Opportunity on Earth' London's enquiry school programme which explored the role of the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the lives of young people. Eastside created 'A Message to the World' which was successfully delivered to nineteen schools across the capital. We have also created A Message to the World website which documents the project and showcases some of the work produced by the participants. Previously Eastside has worked with A New Direction to deliver Creative Partnership projects in London and Change School projects at: South Harringay Infant School (Haringey), Raglan Infant School (Enfield), Oakington Manor Primary School (Brent) and Langdon Park Secondary School (Tower Hamlets). A New Direction works with and for young Londoners, providing powerful ways for them to access the best of arts and culture. A New Direction believe that all young people have the right to experience creativity. This can build individual happiness, personal fulfilment, life skills and the capacity for self-determination and a better society.
A message from A New Direction: The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are the biggest spectacle in the world with a global audience of nearly 5 billion people. Nothing like it in London will happen again - it’s a moment for the world to reflect on itself. Last summer we worked with Eastside Educational Trust on a project called A Message to the World, part of 'The Biggest Learning Opportunity on Earth (BigLop). This project set out to ask young people ‘What would your message to the world be in 2012?’ by exploring the seven Olympic Values of friendship, courage, equality, determination, excellence, respect and inspiration through a range of art forms. Some amazing things have happened, and BigLopFest, a week of activities across London, was our way of sharing them. |
