Project Ideas
It is sometimes difficult to get started with projects, so we thought we would list some of our past projects and some guidelines to deciding what might work in your school or organisation. This section gives you a snapshot of what could happen in dance workshops and projects.

This highly expressive dance is performed to catchy beats and tunes and offers participants an insight into another cultural as well as a good general introduction to dance.
Contemporary Dance
Difficult to encapsulate, Contemporary Dance can feature elements of ballet or postmodernism; martial arts, tap dance, hip hop or Bharata Natyam, they may be integrated with rock music, computer technology, performance art or film. East-Side's experienced contemporary dance facilitators are as diverse as the range of contemporary dance performance that can be seen in Britain today. Jazz Dance
The various styles of jazz dance have grown from the emphasis on individual style and improvisation. Jazz dance emphasizes individual expression. Each teacher, dancer, and choreographer brings a unique style into the mix. East-Side's jazz sessions offer young people the opportunity to try out different styles but this dance style also offers participants the opportunity to discover more about the predominant dance style used in Musical Theatre. Jazz is the precursor of Street dance and is a great foundation for young people who wish to pursue these dance styles.
Pop Dance
This is a fun way for young people to engage in dance to their favourite pop music. Popular with younger students, pop dance is a great way for young people to channel their energy and get fit.
Salsa
Salsa is a distillation of many Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances with roots in Cuba and Puerto Rico. A partner dance, salsa is popular with young people because of its lively rhythms.
Samba
The Samba originated in Brazil. It was and is danced as a festival dance during the street festivals and celebrations. The festive style and mood of the dance has kept it alive and popular to this day. Samba is a fun dance that fits most of today's popular music and is extremely popular with young people.
Street Dance
Undoubtedly one of the most popular dance forms with young people today, Street Dance can be extremely physically challenging. Using popular music and freestyle, street dance can include breakdance, locking and body popping, or can re-create the fusion of popular and jazz moves as seen on MTV.
East-Side's portfolio of dance and movement workshops is not limited to what has been listed above - if you have any ideas we would love to hear them and we can also offer acrobatics, African dance, contemporary dance and jazz and ballet. We are also able to integrate dance into other curriculum areas using dance to explain and explore social history is a very powerful way to engage young people or indeed dance can be used to broaden their cultural horizons to developing their understanding of human anatomy.
