Project Case Study
Name of Project:
Arts Apprenticeships: Dance Audition Skills
Background:
This project is running as part of Arts Apprenticeships which is a programme devised by East-Side Educational Trust to offer teachers the opportunity to work collaboratively with artists. Arts Apprenticeships is a training and learning programme for everyone involved – teachers, artists and students. Unlike artists’ residencies, Arts Apprenticeships places a greater emphasis on the collaboration between the teacher and the artist.
Details:
This project has been targeted at students in Year 11 preparing for their GCSE’s and aims to give students an insight into preparing for auditions. The project has been devised so that students respond to a real advertisement for a position and prepare an audition piece. Students also have the opportunity to research available studios and institutions and prepare letters of application and CV’s. The programme also explains what a professional dancer can expect for example salaries, career length the importance of keeping fit and staying healthy as well as personal presentation and etiquette. Whilst being focussed on preparing for auditions the facilitator has been exploring different dance styles. Different groups of students are exploring Contemporary dance (limon/release based style) or African Dance.
