bfi film academy 2017-2018

developing the next generation of film industry talent

Eastside is delighted to announce our sixth annual BFI Film Academy where 25 aspiring filmmakers aged between 16 - 19 will get the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of filmmaking through a series of workshops and masterclasses, in which they will get the chance to learn from, and work with, leading industry professionals through our BFI Film Academy programme.

To register your interest in applying for the course, please email Gemma on gemma@eastside.org.uk with your name, your age in October 2017 and your school or college name.

.

Over the course of the programme, students can expect to gain invaluable insights into the skills and qualities needed to succeed in the British film industry and receive practical training in cinematography, directing, producing, distribution as well as the lesser known roles within film production including sound design and art department. Whilst honing their filmmaking skills, students will professionally collaborate with a young screenwriter and work in small crews to produce their own short films.

.

Our programme offers the participants the opportunity to meet a range of professionals in the industry on career focused days to learn about different forms of training beyond the academy, gain insight into career paths trodden by those currently working in the industry and to hear invaluable advice based on their experience.

.

The students will also get their short films premiered at a professional arts venue in January as we roll out the red carpet to celebrate their success and achievement.

.

As part of the programme, students will also work towards achieving their Silver Arts Award, a level 2 qualification, which requires the students to reflect on what they are learning, record their progress and share their knowledge and skills with their peers.

.

A number of our BFI Film Academy alumni who successfully completed the course with Eastside have since gone on to launch their own careers in film; participants have been commissioned to make films; some are working within the industry and our alumni pool boasts the youngest ever student at the prestigious National Film and Television School.
