Eastside's Press and Marketing internships give individuals interested in pursuing a career in press and marketing or public relations within the arts or education sectors, the opportunity to gain on the job work experience, valuable insights into the profession and individual mentoring from a well-established PR / Marketing professional. Some prior PR experience, study or training is essential. We offer three internships every year, each running over a four-month period.
  1. January - April
  2. May - August
  3. September - December

This opportunity is ideal for:
  • Recent graduates, individuals interested in pursuing a career in arts marketing or as a work placement for students enrolled in Arts Management courses
  • Individuals who are currently working within Arts Administration but wish to specialise within Press and Marketing
  • Individuals with some knowledge of press and marketing who wish to accelerate their skills and gain appropriate work experience prior to applying for paid positions

You will be expected to:
  • Write press releases and place stories about Eastside's projects and workshops
  • Build on press relationships with local media as developed by previous interns
  • Write marketing copy
  • Assist the Arts Development Director in writing copy for Eastside's newsletter, Facebook page, news blog and in sending tweets
  • Get involved in marketing campaigns including direct marketing, mailings and developing targeted campaigns
  • You will be involved in securing promotions and promotional material
  • Commit to the internship for 2 - 3 days a week over a period of four months
  • Attend a weekly briefing with the Arts Development Director and daily meetings with the Volunteer Co-ordinator
  • Show an interest in the arts, education or arts education
  • Have a basic understanding of press and marketing and the tools used to achieve appropriate coverage
  • Identify a key area to focus on within the mentorship with your mentor
  • Maintain contact and correspondence with your mentor

It is our aim to make any volunteering opportunity or internship worthwhile and beneficial, so you can expect the following from us:
  • A mentor who will be a well-established Press and Marketing professional.  Previous mentors have worked for PR agencies and Multi-National Companies
  • Ongoing support from Eastside's Volunteer Co-ordinator, Operations Manager and Arts Development Director
  • To take responsibility for your own campaigns
