Arts Council England

Arts Council England (ACE) is the national development agency for the arts and a core funder of Eastside Educational Trust. Arts Council England, London supports Eastside's literature development programme and spoken word events. Eastside has been a client of the Arts Council's Literature Department since 2004 and receives regular funding in support of a range of literature based activities across the capital. Supported projects include: Graphic Truths, Write Up Your Street, From Page to Stage, Play the Critic, Arts ExtendPoetry Slam, London Calling and our International Writers' Exchange. Arts Council England also support a programme of Writers' and Poets' Visits to London schools. Eastside has also received a grant from Sustain in support of our on-going literature programme 2009 -2011.

National Lottery - Grants for the Arts

Grants for the Arts are awarded by Arts Council England and are funded by The National Lottery. Grants for the Arts are for individuals or arts organisations to engage people in England in arts activities, and to help artists and arts organisations to carry out their work. Eastside has previously received funding from Grants for the Arts towards establishing The Lower Eastside - our arts education centre and to run a programme of training for artist educators. We also received funding for The Publishing Game, a project to address the issue of under-representation of black and minority ethnic groups within the publishing industry and Community Translation a project run in partnership with the Stephen Spender Memorial Trust. Most recently Grants for the Arts gave Eastside a grant to update our IT systems and website, to commission a bespoke contact management system and to create an intranet and extranet.

National Lottery - Awards for All

The National Lottery – Awards for All supports Eastside’s Family Learning Programme which is comprised of 4 linked strands; Family Fun! which promotes family learning through weekend arts and crafts sessions; Dads' Club Saturday morning drop-in sessions to celebrate the bond between Dad's and their children, Tiny Book Club which encourages the under 5’s to explore books and stories with their parents from across the local communities in Hackney & Tower Hamlets and Turn The Page, a teenage reading group which supports teen readers to take their interests further and has a focus on engaging boys in reading.

UBS

UBS is one of the world's leading financial firms and a core funder of Eastside Educational Trust. UBS employees are involved in a number of Eastside's projects and educational initiatives and UBS is the principal supporter of Eastside's Volunteering Programme which includes internships, a media & marketing mentoring programme, work experience placements and a range of volunteering opportunities for local people, arts graduates and business employees. UBS's Community Affairs programme has supported regeneration and education in East London for over 20 years; this is exemplified by their sponsorship of the The Bridge Academy, Hackney, an independent secondary school, newly established in 2007, through the UK government’s Academies programme. Bridge Academy students have been able to take part in Eastside's Cultural Ambassadors programme.

John Lyon's Charity

John Lyon's Charity aims to enhance the conditions of life and improve the life-chances of young people through education. John Lyon's Charity currently supports Trans-lingual Express a project which challenges participants to make films in the foreign languages they are studying and to exchange their films with their peers abroad. Trans-lingual Express, which links young people in London with their counterparts in Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Rome won the 2008 European Award for Languages. Eastside is currently developing a teaching resource which includes the young people’s films to demonstrate how teachers can use cameras in the classroom to motivate their students and meet the requirements of the new languages curriculum. John Lyon's Charity also previously supported Write Up Your Street a writing mentoring programme for emerging new writers.

PricewaterhouseCoopers

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) is one of the world's leading professional services firms. The PwC in the Community programme in the UK currently supports Trans-lingual Express a project which challenges participants to make films in the foreign languages they are studying and to exchange their films with their peers abroad. Originally piloted with Grey Coat Hospital School, Trans-lingual Express, links young people in London with their counterparts in Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Rome. The project won the 2008 European Award for Languages and Eastside is currently developing a teaching resource which includes the young people’s films, to demonstrate how teachers can use cameras in the classroom to motivate their students and meet the requirements of the new languages curriculum. Previously, PwC has also supported Parlez-vous Français? a project to commemorate the centenary of the Entente Cordiale by introducing primary school children to French through storytelling and Mon-Lon a film-making exchange between young people in Montreal and London.

Vodafone - World of Difference

Vodafone gives people the power to make a difference and take advantage of opportunities they might not otherwise have. Delivered by the Vodafone Foundation, World of Difference has made it possible for four interns to each take a two month paid placement with Eastside. Maria Dimitriou, Jassmine Vilkhu, Clare Haywood and Akhio Schilz will all be starting their placements with Eastside from January and each has received a new mobile phone, with a preloaded SIM card, so they can keep Vodafone posted about their placement.

Adobe Youth Voices

Adobe Youth Voices is Adobe's global philanthropic initiative that empowers youth worldwide to comment on their world using multimedia and digital tools to communicate and share their ideas, demonstrate their potential, and take action in their communities. Eastside is working with young poets and spoken word artists aged 15-19 to make their voices heard more widely though the medium of film, as part of the Adobe Youth Voices programme in the UK. Eastside has also celebrated the efforts of young artists and youth arts in the UK by linking our Cultural Ambassadors Programme in London with 'Reel Grrls' in Seattle, Washington in the USA.

Mediabox

Mediabox is a Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) fund to help young people have a positive voice in the media. It offers disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects, using film, print, television, radio or online platforms. Mediabox is currently supporting Eastside to work with young people from BME communities aged 16 - 19 to develop artistic, technical and management skills by creating their own magazine as part of Graphic Truths a project developed in response to the In Full Colour research about diversity within publishing.

London Borough of Hackney

The London Borough of Hackney supports Eastside Educational Trust in a number of ways; Eastside were commissioned by Hackney Cultural Services to deliver the Hackney Cultural Ambassadors Programme linked to the 'Discover Young Hackney' festival. Eastside teamed up with Hackney Youth Service and Shoreditch Youth Forum to deliver a regular programme of arts activities which take place at Eastside. Hackney Children's Services supports the Hackney Impact Arts Academy (HIAA), a new arts initiative offering young people aged 10 to 19 living within the London Borough of Hackney exciting opportunities in music, film, dance and event management. Hackney Cultural Services also supported Eastside to run activities as part of the Discover Young Hackney festival, including; Comic and Manga Design and Rap, Rhythm and Word workshops.

London Development Agency

The London Development Agency (L.D.A.) is one of nine regional development agencies in England, and is one of the Mayor of London's four functional bodies. The LDA in partnership with Hackney Children's Services supports the Hackney Impact Arts Academy (HIAA). The Academy partnership is made up of three leading Hackney based arts organisations; Mouth That Roars, Rising Tide and Eastside Educational Trust. Hackney Impact Arts Academy is a new arts initiative offering young people aged 10 to 19 living within the London Borough of Hackney exciting opportunities in music, film, dance and event management.

A New Direction

A New Direction (AND) is the delivery agency for the Creative Partnerships programme in London and supports Eastside to deliver a range of creative learning projects and teacher training programmes in primary and secondary schools across London. A New Direction commissioned Eastside to develop and run, three Change School projects; A Change Is Gonna Come at South Harringay Infant School (Haringey), Explorers ‘R’ Us at Oakington Manor Primary School (Brent) and Word & Vision at Langdon Park Secondary School (Tower Hamlets).

Department for Children, Schools & Families

The Department for Children, Schools & Families (DCSF) aims to give all young people the chance of a positive future by helping them to learn in ways that motivate and stretch them and enable them to achieve; engage in positive developmental activities. The DCSF is supporting a national programme of nineteen Performing for Success pilot projects throughout the UK including two in London run by Eastside Educational Trust. The two pilot projects in London will be aimed at secondary school students facing economic disadvantage.

Rex Hall Associates

Rex Hall Associates Ltd provides educational consultancy throughout the UK, with specific expertise in Study Support, Extended Schools and personalised learning. RHA engaged Eastside Educational Trust to consultant nationally with arts organisations and performance venues across the country to develop Performing for Success a scheme which focuses on improving key skills such as numeracy, literacy and ICT through the arts and to pilot Performing for Success in London.

Jack Petchey Foundation

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in 1999 by the successful East London entrepreneur and self-made millionaire  Jack Petchey OBE, who set up the Foundation in order to support worthy children’s causes that benefit young people aged 11-25 in London and Essex.  The Jack Petchey Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Eastside and currently supports Interact a network of youth theatres and youth dance companies in four London boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Westminster and Redbridge). The Jack Petchey Foundation also previously supported Arts Access a theatre group which ran in Southwark and Barking and Dagenham and included workshops for children with special needs and Dance Synergy a pro-am youth dance company in Tower Hamlets that was based at Chisenhale Dance Space.

Morgan Stanley International Foundation

Morgan Stanley is a global financial services firm and the Morgan Stanley International Foundation (MSIF) was established in 1995 as a registered charity to support education, training and employment. The Morgan Stanley International Foundation supported Eastside from 1999 - 2009 to deliver our Creative School Communities programme in Tower Hamlets. Four primary schools (Arnhem Wharf Primary School, Woolmore Primary School, St Edmunds Primary School and Old Ford Primary School), all close to Morgan Stanley's Canary Wharf offices were able to develop a programme of creative learning over a sustained ten-year period, which impacted on every part of the school community bringing benefits for children, teachers and parents alike. Workshops and residencies were led by artists and writers to support pupils in raising their achievement through creative learning, some projects involved children and their parents working together and teachers INSETs offered creative new approaches to the School Curriculum that teachers could use and adapt in the classroom.

Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse is a world-leading financial services company which supported Eastside from 1999 - 2009 to deliver our Creative School Communities programme in Tower Hamlets. Four primary schools supported by Credit Suisse (Lansbury Lawrence Primary School, St. Saviours Primary School, Mayflower Primary School and Harbinger Primary School), were able to develop a programme of creative learning over a sustained ten-year period, which impacted on every part of the school community bringing benefits for children, teachers and parents alike. Workshops and residencies were led by artists and writers to support pupils in raising their achievement through creative learning, some projects involved children and their parents working together and teachers INSETs offered creative new approaches to the School Curriculum that teachers could use and adapt in the classroom. Credit Suisse also supported a project exploring French through film at Central Foundation Girls’ School.

British Council

The British Council aims to strengthen understanding and trust between and within different cultures. The British Council commissioned Eastside to co-ordinate and deliver workshops in London schools as part of Power In The Voice, a three year British Council project to enable young people in Southern Africa and the UK to find their voices and express themselves under the guidance of international performance poets, rap artists and storytellers. Over three years, the project involved 3,300 school children and reached more than 25 million people. Eastside also managed a skills share day for visiting Southern African artists to work with their UK counterparts and a team of young people from North London were chosen to represent the UK at the 'Power In The Voice' Festival in Botswana. The British Council is currently developing the programme further. 

Power Efficiency

Power Efficiency is an energy management consultancy that has supported Eastside since 2005.  Power Efficiency has sponsored the costs of a number of Eastside's previous events and fundraising parties, this year Power Efficiency is supporting a gala youth music performance at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus on Saturday November 7th. The gala will involve all the members of Eastside's youth theatre and youth dance companies as well as a number of young people who recently achieved their silver Arts Awards.

Spear Charitable Trust

The Spear Charitable Trust currently supports Eastside’s Family Learning Programme which promotes family learning through arts and crafts; the programme includes a Dads' Club and a Tiny Book Club which encourages the under 5’s to explore books and stories with their parents from across the local communities in Hackney & Tower Hamlets. The trust also supports teenagers to take their interests further through Turn The Page a teenage reading group which has a focus on graphic novels and engaging boys in reading. The Spear Charitable Trust also previously supported a programme of weekend drama workshops and supported the development of Eastside’s arts education centre The Lower Eastside.

Youth Opportunity Fund - Newham

The Youth Opportunity Fund receives funding from both the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the London Development Agency (LDA). The Youth Opportunity Fund supports a youth theatre company in Newham as part of Interact, our network of youth theatres and youth dance companies in four London boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Westminster and Redbridge).

Find Your Talent - (Tower Hamlets)

Find Your Talent is being piloted in ten areas around the country and is intended to give young people the chance to discover and develop their talents with the intention, ultimately, to offer all children five hours of arts and culture a week, in and outside of the schoold day. In London, Find Your Talent is being piloted in Tower Hamlets and Eastside is working with Tower Hamlets Children's Services to deliver a programme of Performing for Success projects in Tower Hamlets schools for young people at primary and secondary age, and their families. The project aims to widen participation, provide an insight in to the creative industries and links to major arts organisations across the capital.

NewCEYS

Newham Community Education & Youth Service (NewCEYS) is the main provider of part-time adult education and youth services for the London Borough of Newham. NewCEYS supports a youth theatre company in Newham as part of Interact, our network of youth theatres and youth dance companies in four London boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Westminster and Redbridge).

The Lefèvre Trust

The Lefèvre Trust aims to increase understanding and trust between young people in the UK and France by providing funding to support one-way or reciprocal visits that are part of innovative projects. The Lefèvre Trust made it possible for Eastside to take young people to Paris as part of Trans-lingual Express and to bring young people from France to London for the première screening of the students' films at BFI Southbank.   

Hackney Voluntary Action

Hackney Voluntary Action (HVA) is the Volunteer Centre for Hackney offering support to organisations in volunteer recruitment, retention, recognition and appreciation. HVA is a member of the National Association of Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) and Volunteering England. Hackney Voluntary Action supported Eastside's Volunteering Programme to help us gain the 'Investors in Volunteers' quality assurance standard (kite-mark scheme).

The Worshipful Company of Actuaries Charitable Trust

The Worshipful Company of Actuaries is one of over 100 Livery Companies established in the City of London. The Company is committed to its profession, aiming to extend recognition and understanding of the work of actuaries within the City and beyond. An important objective of the Company is to support its Charitable Trust, which was established in 1980. A grant from the The Worshipful Company of Actuaries Charitable Trust has enabled Eastside to run a series of teenage reading sessions in libraries across London exploring maths related literature as part of Turn the Page our teenage reading groups.

Diana & Gerard Young Trust Fund

The Diana and Gerard Young Trust Fund is a small family trust fund established in 1981 to support smaller charities which do not have access to major fundraising activities, to support charities local to the family home town of Sheffield and to support any good causes known personally to the family. Support received from the Diana & Gerard Young Trust Fund goes towards providing arts and crafts activities for children with special educational needs and learning disabilities.

Redbridge Arts Council

Redbridge Arts Council is the umbrella organisation for the arts, both static and performing, in the London borough of Redbridge, and has given support towards running a youth theatre company in Redbridge as part of Interact, our network of youth theatres and youth dance companies in four London boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Westminster and Redbridge).
