educational trust is an award winning and world record breaking charity, which has won many major awards and received some amazing accolades over the years for its ground breaking work with children and young people. 

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2010


Eastside has been nominated for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2010, the MBE for volunteer groups. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is a UK National Honour that was created by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work done in their local communities. Winners of the award receive a certificate signed by Her Majesty The Queen and a domed glass crystal. The Lord Lieutenant from the local county presents the certificate and the crystal to winning volunteer groups. Representatives from the group may also be invited to attend a royal garden party. Winners of The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service are

announced on 2 June every year.

 Learning Outside the Classroom Award 2010


The Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge is a national benchmark for the provision of educational visits which recognises organisations offering high quality learning experiences and managing risk effectively. The quality badge is awarded to providers who have pledged to engage in an ongoing process to sustain high-quality learning outside the classroom and who have demonstrated that they meet all the relevant  quality indicators to ensure that all children and young people can benefit from increased opportunities for high quality and varied educational experiences outside the classroom. Investing In Volunteers Award 2009


The United Kingdom Volunteering Forum (UKVF) awarded the prestigious Investing in Volunteers quality assurance standard to Eastside's volunteering programme in 2009, in recognition of our volunteering opportunities, internships and work experience placements. Eastside's volunteering programme offers high-quality placements to over 100 volunteers each year, from across London and around the world. Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations which involve volunteers in their work and the kite-mark has been awarded to Eastside for three years from October 2009 - 2012. The European Award for Languages 2008


Eastside won the European Award for Languages in 2008 for our innovative and inspirational language learning project Trans-lingual Express which links young people in London with their European counterparts in France, Germany, Italy and Spain through the medium of film and modern foreign languages. The award was presented to Eastside's Directors, Christopher Enticott and Rakhee Jasani  by Sir Trevor McDonald on behalf of CiLT - The National Centre for Languages. The European Award for Languages recognises creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students and make the best of available resources. Read more.

The Italian Embassy Language Prize 2008


Eastside's multi-award winning project, Trans-lingual Express also won The Italian Embassy Language Prize in 2008. The Italian Embassy Language Prize recognised Eastside's contribution in motivating language students and encouraging young people to explore Italian culture as well as promoting Italian as a fun and accessible language to study with important business, economic and cultural benefits.

The Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation 2004


Eastside and Cartoon Network, working in partnership in 2005, were joint recipients of the Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation Award for our drama and animation project ArtWorks. The award was presented to Eastside by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in recognition of our contribution to the One Million Kids Challenge which was established by the Prince of Wales' Arts & Kids Foundation to engage one million young people in the arts and to use the power of the arts to transform young lives. ArtWorks was commissioned by The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts (formerly Arts & Kids) to link the worlds of business, arts and education and to help children to experience the arts in a high quality way.

The EDF Energy Arts & Kids Award 2004


Eastside, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse, working in partnership in 2004, were shortlisted for the EDF Energy Arts & Kids Award in recognition of a business/arts partnership that has successfully exploited the positive power of the arts to the benefit of children and young people. The award was to recognise Eastside's Creative Schools Communities project which involved pupils and teachers from five primary schools in Tower Hamlets working with Eastside for an entire academic year. The Arts & Business Awards are the UK's premier awards celebrating excellence in the field of cultural partnerships and sponsorship.

The Royal Society of Arts 2004


The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) recognised  the work of Eastside Educational Trust's Arts Development Director in 2004, by electing Rakhee Jasani for an RSA Fellowship. Fellows of the Royal Society are achievers and influencers who come from an extraordinary range of backgrounds and are committed to civic innovation and social progress. The RSA has been a cradle of enlightenment thinking and a force for social progress for over 250 years. 

Guinness World Records 2003


Eastside's second Guinness  World Record started on 17th August 2003 and ended 72 hours and 19 minutes later on 20th August 2003. During that time, the record for the longest reading aloud marathon was set by a team of 5 young people from the Wadhurst Youth Theatre in East Sussex who read the entire series of Harry Potter books non-stop. The young readers taking part were; Kitty McCarron, Rachel Muir, Jessica Hosmer Wright, Henry Nathan and David Barham.

The Arts & Business New Partners Award 2002


Eastside and Deutsche Bank, working in partnership in 2002, were jointly nominated for the Arts & Business New Partners Award for our Arts Apprenticeships professional development and training programme. Eastside was recognised for taking the partnership beyond a purely financial relationship and our work which engaged Deutsche Bank employees in Eastside's educational programmes, was commended by the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, for adding value to the partnership. Arts Apprenticeships culminated in Back to School, an event at the Merchant Taylor's Hall where Deutsche Bank employee volunteers celebrated their achievements in the community. Eastside was recognised twice in 2002 for its partnership with Deutsche Bank. The Arts & Business Awards are the UK's premier awards celebrating excellence in the field of cultural partnerships and sponsorship.

Golden Web Award 2002


Eastside was awarded a Golden Web Award for the design of its website in 2002 which captured the fun and highly professional way Eastside inspires young people. The Golden Web Awards are presented to those sites whose web design, originality and content have achieved levels of excellence deserving of recognition and are awarded by the International Association of Web Masters and Designers (IAWMD).

The Schools Extra Award 2002


Eastside was awarded a certificate of distinction by Education Extra in 2002, for our work in developing an after school club programme with Malmesbury Primary School in Tower Hamlets. The Schools Extra Award was in recognition of our commitment to the enrichment of young people's learning out of school hours and in acknowledging the importance of study support to the achievement of young people at school.

The Arts & Business Award 2002


Eastside and Deutsche Bank, working in partnership in 2002, were jointly nominated for The Arts & Business Award 2002 for Outstanding Arts / Business partnership for the Enriching Curriculum Learning programme. The programme supported London schools in delivering the curriculum through top quality arts education and offered interactive learning opportunities for students outside the classroom whilst developing and maintaining a sustainable partnership with a corporate supporter. Eastside's specific objectives for this programme included working with young people aged 16 - 18 who are often under-served through educational arts programming. Eastside was recognised twice in 2002 for its partnership with Deutsche Bank. The Arts & Business Awards are the UK's premier awards celebrating excellence in the field of cultural partnerships and sponsorship.

Guinness World Records 2000


Eastside's first Guinness World Record was set in the year 2000 for the largest number of people simultaneously reading aloud. The event, which was organised by Eastside as part of the activities to celebrate National Poetry Day, started at 9.10am on the morning of 5th October 2000 and involved 3701 school children from 15 schools in England, all simultaneously reading the poem Word by Patience Agbabi. Patience herself led the record attempt by reading her poem with a group of children at the Poetry Lounge at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Jack Petchey Leader Award 2000 - 2004 & 2007 - 2008


The Jack Petchey Leader Awards are given to adults who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to encourage and motivate young people aged 11-25 in East London and West Essex. Eastside's Associate Artists and Arts Officers have been recognised with awards from 2001 - 2004 and again in 2007 and 2008 for their commitment and enthusiasm when working with young people.
