Seven young dancers who have recently completed their Silver Arts Award as part of Eastside's HIAA dance programme, celebrated their achievements by taking part in a dance workshop with the Richard Alston Dance Company at The Place - the home of the London Contemporary Dance School. Eastside's young dancers were all keen to find out more about careers in dance and the intensive training programme gave them an insight into what it takes to train professionally. The day-long workshop gave all the students a fantastic opportunity to explore the work of one of UK's leading contemporary dance choreographers.
The seven young people (aged 12 - 17) who have been working with Eastside for over a year, visited The Place to work with the Richard Alston Dance Company for the third time. This was a great experience for the
group, who have mainly focussed on developing their street and jazz dance skills, to take time to study and
develop their technique, including leaps and point work. They also had the chance to learn a piece from Gypsy Mixture a
part of the company repertoire. The day was fast-paced and hard work but the students commented on just
how much they felt they had learnt about the life of a dancer and also about the demands of working within a professional dance company.
