Bugsy Malone reunion for the class of 1994
Published 1st October 2009 at 19:10 4 Comments

Eastside is currently running a campaign in the local Tower Hamlets press to try and track down the original cast members from its inaugural youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone which was put on at the Emery Theatre in Poplar, East London in 1994.

Eastside would like to get back in touch with the original members of the cast - so if you were dancing in Fat Sam’s Speakeasy or if you were one of Dandy Dan's gangsters, Eastside want to hear from you!  The cast members who were all aged between 8 -15 in 1994, will now be in their 20's and 30's. West End star and Eastside patron Gary Wilmot, who came with his own children to see Eastside's production of Bugsy Malone is spearheading the campaign for the charity. The photograph opposite, taken in 1994, shows the Bugsy Malone cast with television presenters Mark Little and Gaby Roslin on the set of Channel 4's The Big Breakfast in Bow Lock.

Hey - I was there - but not as Blousey - but as Musical Director. Wishing you lots of luck in tracking down everyone. Do let me know of any reunion plans. Pat x

Will hopefully be at the reunion and very much looking forward to seeing you all again. Hopefully Chris will play the audio recording of the show (although you all sound very distant!).

My name is Danny Flexen and I played Laughing Boy in Bugsy Malone. My mum saw the ad in the local paper for the reunion and encouraged me to email you, gawd bless er.

Bugsy still ranks as one of the best times of my life and though I had only a medium-sized part, I met my first proper girlfriend there and I got to kill Bugsy himself at the end (although in real life he, true to form, stole said girlfriend at the end), every night!

Looking forward to the reunion in July.
