Arts Award Welcome

We are delighted to announce that Eastside has been selected to become an Arts Award Welcome Centre and we are now able to welcome young people from across London who are working towards gaining their Arts Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold level. From January Eastside will be throwing open its doors and inviting young people to sign up to a number of our exciting participatory activities. As an Arts Award Welcome Centre we are pleased that we can support young people to fulfil the requirements for all parts of the Arts Award.
Graphic Truths to make an exhibition of itself

Tales of Diversity, the magazine created as part of our Graphic Truths project, is to launch on Saturday 16 January from 2 - 5pm at The Rag Factory, just off Brick Lane and will coincide with an exhibition of the young people's work. Word Play

Thirty schools in outer London are to host writers and poets as their students engage in a little word play on their way to becoming more engaged, inspired and motivated readers and writers. Word Play is part of Eastside's literature development programme and in 2010 we will be working with primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and pupil referral units on projects which include spoken word, short stories and creative responses to reading and writing.
Eastside teams up with Richard Alston Dance Company

Seven young dancers who have recently completed their Silver Arts Award as part of Eastside's HIAA dance programme, celebrated their achievements by taking part in a dance workshop with the Richard Alston Dance Company at The Place - the home of the London Contemporary Dance School. Eastside's young dancers were all keen to find out more about careers in dance and the intensive training programme gave them an insight into
what it takes to train professionally. The day-long workshop gave all the students a fantastic opportunity to explore the
work of one of UK's leading contemporary dance choreographers.
Youth Voices heard through the big screen

On Saturday 5th December, six short films were premièred at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, which explored London's cultural life from the point of view of young spoken word artists. The screening also launched the second year of Eastside's involvement with Adobe Youth Voices and Eastside is now inviting young film-makers and poets to sign up for our 2010 programme.
Trans-lingual Express toolkit

Eastside's toolkit for teachers of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) is to be launched in January as an online web-based resource. Our new MFL toolkit will help to support teachers by introducing digital video film-making techniques in to the languages classroom, inspiring and motivating a new generation of international linguists.

Bugsy Malone reunion for the class of 1994

Eastside is currently running a campaign in the local Tower Hamlets press to try and track down the original cast members from its inaugural youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone which was put on at the Emery Theatre in Poplar, East London in 1994.
Eastside to feature in London Children’s Film Festival

Eastside is working with two of London’s oldest cinemas this autumn, the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley and the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, as part of Performing for Success (PfS). A number of short documentaries made by Eastside's young film-makers about both cinemas will be screened as part of the 2009 London Children’s Film Festival (21-29 November).
