Gift Aid allows Eastside to reclaim the basic rate of tax on donations of
any size from individuals. If you are a UK taxpayer, you can use Gift Aid to increase the value of your gifts to charity - this means that every £1 you donate will be worth
£1.25 to Eastside. For all donations made between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011 we will
also receive a separate government supplement of 3p on every pound you give. If you pay income tax at the higher rate, Eastside can reclaim tax as
if it was paid at the basic rate and you reclaim the difference from the Inland
Revenue in the form of additional relief by showing the donation on your tax
return. If you would like to register for Gift Aid,
contact us, we will send you a straight forward declaration form which simply asks you to
confirm that you are a UK
taxpayer. This is as simple as ticking a box or saying “Yes” over the phone.
payroll giving
Payroll
Giving donations are deducted before tax so each £1 you give will only cost
you 80p, and if you are a higher rate tax payer it will only cost you 60p. Over
20 million people are paid via PAYE and many charitable-minded employers
already offer Payroll Giving schemes direct to charities. You can simply ask
your Payroll Department to deduct regular charitable donations from your gross
pay. If your company does not already operate Payroll Giving, please
contact us for a
list of professional fundraising organisations who can promote Payroll Giving
to your employer on our behalf.
giving shares to charity
If you have
received windfall shares which you would like to donate or if you are simply
looking for a tax-efficient way of giving to charity, making a charitable gift
of shares can be a highly tax effective way of supporting Eastside's work. In
addition to the benefit to Eastside, by donating shares to charity there is
no gain or loss for Capital Gains Tax purposes i.e. if the shares have made a
gain the donor will not be taxed on it, if they donate shares.
remember a
charity in your will
Another way
to support Eastside Educational Trust is to leave a gift in your will. Your
solicitor will be able to advise you on how to do this. Currently more than 70%
of people in the UK
actively support charities during their lifetime, yet only 7% go on to remember
a charity in their will. Many people believe that writing a will is
complicated, but in fact it's relatively straight forward, however when writing
or updating your will you should always seek professional advice. Legacies have
the added advantage that donors receive relief from inheritance tax.
sponsorship
If you (or
your company) are planning to hold a sponsored event in aid of charity, why not
name Eastside Educational Trust as the beneficiary and donate the proceeds to
help support our work with children and young people. We would be
delighted if you would consider holding a sponsored activity or fundraising event,
on our behalf. Well placed charitable support can help a business
communicate to its staff, clients and customers, the positive message that the
company supports local causes and can attract new business.
Individuals and companies have had lots of success (and fun!)
fundraising for us in the past. If you would like to discuss a sponsorship
opportunity, please
contact us and we would be happy to offer you plenty of help and guidance.
corporate social responsibility
Many businesses involve their employees in supporting charities within the local
community and some encourage their employees to volunteer for
community activities and also give them paid time off for this. As well
as improving your community relations, this can help motivate employees
and can help develop their interpersonal and team participation skills. Many of the large philanthropic companies invite their employees to nominate a
Charity of the Year - Nominating Eastside Educational Trust would mean that we would benefit from all your company's
fundraising activities throughout that year. If you would like to discuss a potential corporate partnership,
please
contact us and we would be happy to offer you plenty of help and guidance.
in-kind support
Eastside
Educational Trust is grateful to a great number of companies who donate much
appreciated help in-kind. This may take the form of prizes for Eastside’s
competitions or charity auction, office equipment and stationery, providing
free photocopying or donating professional services such as financial advice or
legal services. If your company would like to support Eastside and its
charitable work with young people, please
contact us as
we would love to hear from you.
volunteering
Volunteering
is a great way of giving something back to the community and of lending a
helping hand. It is also an opportunity to gain personal fulfilment and
development building up a skills and experience base. Eastside Educational
Trust has a wide range of volunteering opportunities to suit people with all
degrees of experience; volunteers can assist with administration and
organisational development or can volunteer directly on our creative arts
projects.
Thank you for your support!
