Do not pass GO!

Wrtitten by Alex Underwood and Philip Coales

ALEX: I walk down Oxford Street
all alone I pass the crowd of empty people
pass the walking suits and jeans and shirts and coats
the empty shoes that tread the ground
the floating eyes I cannot meet
the floating voices silent or speaking to machines
I’ve walked the streets of London all my life
I was always alone.

PHILIP: You are on the 4.8 gigabyte BTYahoo service to http://tfl.gov.uk

ALEX: Excuse me, how do I get to Oxford Circus?

PHILIP: Utilise the £160.99 Microsoft service to Xbox live lobby.
Planned delays due to rampant consumerism and cultural identity crisis.

ALEX: I don’t want to be entertained, I want the truth.
How do I get to Westminster?

PHILIP: Do not pass Go. Do not collect 12 seats in the next European election.
Go to school. Get a job. Change at Temple. Talk to God

ALEX: How do I meet?  How do I meet
the people outside my house, in my street?

PHILIP: Do not make eye contact with the poor
cross the street, change your rate, make a detour
cross the street to avoid the hooded top.
Please do not leave your personality
unattended in this city.

ALEX: You don’t know where I'm going, do you?

PHILIP: This is the 17: whatever to 1830 post colonial service to London Victoria.

ALEX: Queen Victoria.

PHILIP: This service terminates here. Change for trains to:
Woodford, Oakwood, Wood Green, Greenford, Green Park, Park Royal, Royal Oak, Royal Albert, Queensway, Kingsbury, Prince Regent, East India, Canada Water, Bluewater, Starbucks, Caffè Nero, Costa Coffee, Pizza Hut, Pasta Hut, no wait Pizza Hut. You are now approaching Old Street. This is the Circle Line to the finality of death.

ALEX: You don’t know where you’re going
because there’s nowhere to go.
Walking in circles, I’m exhausted, how do I get off, escape, remain myself?
This city kills the soul, makes us all the same, a faceless ghoul.
Just another commuter,
that is the people of London.
I need a map, I can’t find
the landmarks, the milestones of my life.
I’ve passed Mile End, I’ve reached my end
I walk down Oxford Street
but I remain alone in the crowd.

PHILIP: After 24 years, turn right down the Alley of Regrets.
Then turn left for Highgate Cemetery. You have reached your final destination.
Highgate Cemetery, population you and you and you and... you.
