volunteer with eastside on translation nation

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist us with Translation Nation, a project which aims to inspire primary school children to explore literary translation and develop an appetite for international storytelling and a curiosity about world literature. This is a hands-on opportunity to work alongside a translator in London primary schools and requires a minimum commitment of three days (between March-May 2012).

This volunteering role will involve; assisting a professional translator to deliver a creative project for Year 5 pupils (9-10 year olds) which celebrates the different languages spoken in UK primary schools, encouraging children with a thoughtful approach to story-telling and written English, and with games, crafts and drama techniques to enhance their learning. Volunteers will also help us to document the project through audio recordings, note taking and photography.

You will be required to attend a briefing meeting, on either:

  • Thursday 16th February (6.30pm - 8.30pm) or
  • Saturday 18th February (11am - 1pm)

You must be available on one of these dates to be considered, please let us know which of these dates you prefer.

To apply to volunteer on this project, please send us an application letter telling us why you are interested in this opportunity, outlining any previous experience you have and letting us know which briefing date you are available for and what your availability is like from March to May, inclusive. Please send your application letter and CV to: Rakhee Jasani by Monday 13th February 2012 and please indicate if you are in possession of a CRB Enhanced Disclosure,
