Eastside Educational Trust (Registered Charity No: 1077192) is a highly acclaimed, award winning, world record breaking, arts education charity which was established in 1994 to introduce children and young people to the arts, culture and heritage in London. Eastside aims to inspire and motivate young people to realise their full potential, by providing the biggest choice of creativity and culture on offer anywhere in the capital. The charity is based in Shoreditch, East London but runs projects right across all 33 London boroughs, prioritising work with some of the capital's most disadvantaged young people from deprived inner city areas. The charity also runs national and international projects linking young people in the UK with their peers around the world, these projects are designed to foster cultural understanding, encourage foreign language learning and to support a global exchange of ideas and creativity.
Each year Eastside provide more than 100,000 hours of arts activities to children and young people, in a year-round programme taking place in a range of venues across London. Eastside's flagship projects include a network of youth theatre groups and youth dance companies, live literature and spoken word events, poetry slams and play readings, book clubs, rap and song writing workshops, visual arts and crafts, film-making projects, music courses and much more besides. Eastside also runs a programme of free activities for local children and their families at the charity's arts education centre in Shoreditch called The Lower Eastside. Activities include a dad's club (for fathers & their children), an under 5's book club, a teenage reading group, the Hackney Cultural Ambassadors, the Shoreditch Youth Forum and regular arts and creative play days linked to local festivals and cultural holidays.
Eastside's creative arts projects not only help the future generation to develop their artistic skills and cultural understanding, but also introduce important life skills, such as leadership, team work, commitment and responsibility, as well as helping to raise standards across the board.
