CYTO Autumn Workshops in Full Swing

Our drama engagement project that we are running in Croydon schools in partnership with Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation is back in full swing. We are back working in 6 new schools across the borough, and it has been great to see the energy and enthusiasm that the children are bringing into the room and the passion for drama across all the ages we are working with.

The project has been created to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CYTO and give local students the chance to participate in free drama workshops and learn more about the history of CYTO and the opportunities for participating in their productions.

This term sees us working with: Harris Invictus Academy, Oasis Academy Arena, Edenham High School, Meridian High School, Harris Academy South Norwood, Riddlesdown Collegiate, St Joseph's College and John Fisher School. The first couple of weeks the groups have all been working on exercises to help them work effectively as a troupe and develop thier confidence.  They have also been reading and workshoping extracts from two different texts and deciding which one they want to focus on.

Now the choices have been made, they will spend the next three weeks digging deeper into the text and characters, and working towards a script-in-hand sharing at CYTO's home The Shoestring Theatre, where they will present their work to CYTO staff and students, as well as groups from the other participating schools.

We have loved seeing the work so far and can't wait to see their chosen extracts up on their feet in front of an audience.
