Library interns - an opportunity for creative bookworms

Eastside's Library interns assist with the running and upkeep of our arts library and our children's fiction collection, including cataloguing, referencing, compiling anthologies, ensuring the library is stocked with up to date literature, making recommendations and requesting new materials from agents, publishers and booksellers. Our library interns are also responsible for updating online listings and reviews so that the books can be easily identified and located by our library users.

We offer four internships every year, each running over a three-month period:

  1. January - March
  2. April - June
  3. July - September
  4. October - December

This is an ideal opportunity for:

  • English, foreign language or information management students and recent graduates
  • Those wishing to gain an insight into publishing and libraries

Library interns will be expected to:

  • Work on Eastside’s resource library: cataloguing, organising and reviewing
  • Assist in identifying areas of need in the library
  • Contact publishers for donations with support
  • Attend weekly planning meetings with the Visual Arts and Literature Officer and daily meetings with the Volunteer Co-ordinator
  • Commit to two - three days a week over a three month period

It is our aim to make any volunteering opportunity or internship worthwhile and beneficial, so you can expect the following from us:

  • An induction and training
  • Continued and on-going support from Volunteer Co-ordinator

Benefits of volunteering as a library intern include:

  • Relevant work experience
  • Opportunity to gain insight into specialist areas and research
  • Opportunity to input into Eastside's catalogue and write reviews
  • References and advice on career pathways

If you have any questions, please contact us - We look forward to working with you!
