Assistant Workshop Leaders - shaping our artists of the future

Eastside's Assistant Workshop Leaders help our Associate Artists to deliver creative workshops with children and young people in safe and supportive environments throughout London.

This opportunity would be ideal for:

  • Recent arts graduates
  • Those with an interest in pursuing a career within arts education or within education
  • Those interested in working directly with young people
  • Those with experience of teaching who wish to try different career options

You will be expected to:

  • Assist in the running of workshops with young people aged between 5 and 21 years. The age group you are asked to work with will depend on your previous experience and the interests you identify in your application
  • Attend planning meetings and contribute to project planning
  • Be aware of the projects learning outcomes as explained to you at the beginning of a placement, and assist the workshop facilitator in achieving these
  • Help to facilitate the workshops in a fun, safe and energetic way, designed to encourage both learning and enjoyment to record the reactions and responses of the participants during the workshop for the purpose of feeding back to Eastside’s creative team
  • Undertake any additional administrative tasks or equipment duties when needed (ie. completing registration forms, collecting equipment from the office etc.)

It is our aim to make any volunteering or work experience placement worthwhile and beneficial, so you can expect the following from us:

  • An introduction to volunteering with Eastside including a skills share session
  • Access to Eastside’s training programme
  • Support from our dedicated Volunteer Co-ordinator
  • To work within a creative arts discipline that you are familiar with or have an interest in to further children’s experience and skills as well as your own practice
  • To receive a reference on successful completion of your placement

Benefits of volunteering as an Assistant Workshop Leader are:

  • The opportunity to gain work experience within an area you are interested in developing further
  • An insight into the working practices of professional arts educators
  • An opportunity to work within the local community
  • An opportunity to develop your facilitation skills

If you have any questions, please contact us - We look forward to working with you!
